Praise Poem for Bile

by Erynn Rowan Laurie

I stand beneath
the cedar tree
the sky comes down
its vast wide blue
touches earth
and holds the stars
in great green boughs
in cedar boughs
in floating barques
of dark God green
of ancient leaf
of small brown seed
of cedar tree
its arcing root
through loam is led
to cool dark bed
that holds the spring
the river source
the ocean source
in grey and green
the Goddess' womb
embraces her
she bears the spark
of poet's art
to sing of trees
of small brown seeds
of cedar boughs
the sky comes down
the cedar tree
I stand beneath.
